Abe Is First Japanese Leader to Visit Iran in 40 Years

Iran’s State News Agency, IRIB video, provided by REUTERS shows: Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe arrived in Tehran on Wednesday, June 12, in an apparent mediation mission to ease tension between Iran and the United States.
Abe is the first Japanese leader to visit Iran since its 1979 Islamic Revolution.
Iran is asking Japan to mediate between Tehran and Washington to ease oil sanctions imposed by the United States, Iranian officials said ahead of Abe’s visit.
