Dragon Boat Races on Taiwan and Hong Kong
The annual Dragon Boat Races launched in Taiwan and Hong Kong on Friday, June 7. Colorful boats controlled by teams of racers vied to be the fastest in both major cities. The traditional Chinese festival is held each year on the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar, near the summer solstice. Its origins lie in the Chinese folklore story of Qu Yuan, who drowned in the Mi Lo River over 2,000 years ago to protest against corrupt rulers in China.
