‘Brexit Party has been rejected here’: Labour retain UK seat targeted by Nigel Farage

The UK’s Labour Party has narrowly seen off a challenge from the anti-EU Brexit Party and held on to its seat in a vote in the eastern English city of Peterborough on Friday. ‘The fact that the Brexit Party have been rejected here in Peterborough shows that the politics of division will not win’, Labour’s Lisa Forbes said as she retained the constituency for Labour. She beat Nigel Farage’s candidate Mike Greene by 683 votes. Ms Forbes said her victory was ‘significant’ and showed that the ‘the politics of hope can win’. The Brexit Party, launched only in April, swept to victory in the United Kingdom’s European Parliament election last month, riding a wave of anger over Prime Minister Theresa May’s failure to deliver Brexit on time
