Malaysia frees Siti Aisyah charged with with killing Kim Jong-nam

Siti Aisyah, one of the two women accused of murdering Kim Jong-nam at Kuala Lumpur airport in February 2017, has been freed from jail after Malaysian authorities agreed to drop the charge. Malaysia’s attorney general said that ‘good relations’ between his country and Indonesia had led to Aisyah being freed, two years after she was detained for the murder. Doan Thi Huong, who is Vietnamese, remains on trial with her lawyers saying she is ‘in shock’ after Aisyah’s release. Both women deny murder, saying they were tricked into smearing nerve agent across Kim’s face by North Korean spies who posed as hosts of a prank-based television show.
