Why are so many climbers dying on Everest? | Times News
Nepal is to introduce tough restrictions for first-time climbers on Mount Everest, barring those without experience at high altitude as it seeks to avoid a repeat of this year’s chaotic and deadly spring season.
Under new regulations unveiled yesterday and which come into force next year, climbers will have to provide proof that they have already conquered a summit of 6,500m or higher, before attempting Everest which, at 8,848m, is the highest peak in the world. The move follows widespread calls to ban climbers without basic skills after 11 people died on Everest this year amid chronic overcrowding at the summit.
