Gibraltar defies US and releases seized Iranian tanker

Its seizure was interpreted as a concerning escalation in global tensions with Iran.

But an Iranian super-tanker captured by British Royal Marines six weeks ago has been released by Gibraltar despite America making a last-minute plea to block its release.

The Grace One and its crew had been accused of breaking international oil sanctions against Syria.

But one of the world’s smallest nations defied the most powerful and decided to let it go anyway.
