Philadelphia Refinery Fire Still Burning
Explosions and a blaze at the Philadelphia Energy Solutions Refining Complex sent a fireball into the sky and shook homes in the city before dawn Friday, June 21, though authorities reported only a few minor injuries. They also said the air was safe to breathe.
The fire at the largest oil refinery on the East Coast, while deemed contained and controlled, continued to burn Friday afternoon, said Craig Murphy, deputy fire commissioner.
The fire started about 4 a.m. local time, PES spokeswoman Cherice Corley said.
